Ultralingua, Inc. was founded in 1997, with a mission to develop high quality language tools for the business, education, and travel markets. What started as a French Dictionary for the Mac platform has turned into a leading provider of software and web-based dictionaries and language tools, including 16 dictionaries on five platforms, four grammar and spelling checkers for Mac and Windows, and the Eureka encyclopedia.

Ultralingua also provides solutions to corporate companies worldwide, including API, Web Versions, and OEM versions of our award winning programs. Our products are used by the Government of Canada, the UN, Lyon University, the Peace Corps, and the International Herald Tribune (a New York Times publication). We also have distribution agreements with such luminaries as McGraw Hill, Apple Computer, and Hachette Multimedia.

Ultralingua's dictionaries are compiled by a team of language professionals, including linguists, university professors, and professional translators. The database management and user interface are based on cutting edge research in the field of lexicography.

Our vision is to be the digital reference provider of choice, for teachers of foreign languages, foreign language learners, multi-lingual professionals, and makers of language related software and web programs.

Our Markets

Ultralingua competes in the market for digital language reference tools, primarily software-based dictionaries and grammar/spelling checkers. Our customers include teachers, students, translators, and multi-lingual professionals from a host of industries. We sell to many organizations who purchase site licenses, while hardware, software, and internet companies are also customers for embedded OEM (bundled with other hardware), API (embedded in other software), and Web Versions of our products.
