Business travel Traveling by necessity of work.
- Travel management services Services offered by a corporate travel agency to help a client control and monitor its business travel costs.
- Business travel department (BTD) Department in a corporation that handles travel arrangements for the corporation’s employees.
Nondiscretionary travel Travel undertaken out of necessity, such as business or professional travel.

Conventions
Convention Large meeting of people with similar interests, typically involving a general group session held in a large auditorium, followed by committee meetings in small breakout rooms. Most conventions are held regularly (usually annually) and meet for a minimum three days.
- Keynote Most important speech at an event.
- General session Session for all the participants.
- Breakout room Small room used for meetings of subgroups at the convention.
- Breakout Smaller sessions that are held as part of a general convention.
- Trade convention (Technical convention) Conventions held in conjunction with exhibitions.
- Convention center Building or group of buildings designed to hold conventions.
- Association executive Professional administrator employed by an association and responsible for planning and promoting annual conventions and association meetings.
- Convention bureau Local organization that markets a city as a convention destination.
- Fam tour All- or most-expenses-paid visit to one or several potential convention sites provided to association executives, travel agents, etc., so they can familiarize themselves with the facilities.
- Complete meeting package (CMP) Arrangement that includes all lodging, food, and meeting-space costs in one package price.
- Spouse activities Convention trade term for spouses to encourage delegates to take their spouses. Some have activities for children too.
Conferences Similar to conventions, but they tend to deal with specific issues rather than matters of a general nature and involve much member participation.
- Congress Similar to conference, the term is commonly used in Europe for international gatherings.
- Conference center Meeting facility designed specifically for business meetings.
Forum Meeting involving discussion on a particular issue, usually led by panelists or presenters. Audience participation is expected.
- Panel Format that calls for two or more speakers and a moderator. Panelists present their viewpoint on a particular subject. The meeting is then open for discussion among the speakers and with the audience.
Symposium Similar to a forum, though it tends to be more formal and involves less audience participation.
Lecture Formal address by an individual from a platform, usually without audience participation. The presentation is sometimes followed by a question-and-answer period.
Seminar Informal meeting involving discussion. Participants share their knowledge and experience in a particular field chaired by a discussion leader.
Workshop Small group session (usually a maximum of 35 participants) held for a period of intense study or training. The emphasis is on exchanging ideas and demonstrating skills and techniques. These can last several days.
Clinic Small group session offering drills and instruction in specific skills. These can last several days.
Teleconferencing Meeting held at several different locations simultaneously using advanced technology that enables the participants to see and hear each other.
Convention and visitors bureau (CVB) Organization that promotes travel to the city it represents and assists in servicing conventions and trade shows held in the city.
Exhibitions
Exhibition (Exposition) Meetings used to display goods and services by vendors. They are staged as part of a convention or conference.
- Exhibit hall Large enclosed space at a convention or trade show with displays of products, etc.
- Booth (AmE) (BrE, Stand) Display space rented by a vendor at an exhibition.
- Video kiosk Booth in which visitors can watch promotional videos.
- Shell scheme Standard design of the individual display booth, provided by the organizers.
- Trash 'n' trinkets (AmE, slang) Small token gifts given at conventions, sales meetings, etc.
- Hospitality suite Small room used by an exhibitor, often in a hotel, with refreshments for visitors.

Trade fair (Trade show) Large-scale exhibiting around a theme by means of freestanding vendor displays, often in specially designed buildings. Attendance at a major show lasting several days can reach 500,000 or more.
