South Dakota dioceses South Dakota declared it had been spared from the sex abuse scandal: Officials in the Sioux Falls and Rapid City dioceses knew of no recent abuse allegations.
Sky Ranch affair Man claimed to have been kidnapped and sexually assaulted by several times there by the ranch's director, the Rev. Donald Murray, when he was 14 years old in 1965. The victim raised a lawsuit against the Sky Ranch for Boys in western South Dakota and the Sky Ranch Foundation 2003.
Indian boarding schools’ abuse Indians in South Dakota are suing the Diocese of Sioux Falls and the Diocese of Rapid City in addition to organizations that provided priests and nuns to work in the schools, seeking damages for students, alleging clergy abused hundreds of students at Native American boarding schools. Beginning at a young age, sometimes just five years old, native American former students say they suffered physical, mental, sexual and psychological abuse. The students say they were beaten, even tortured by priests and nuns who ran the schools, filed in state circuit courts Sioux Falls and Rapid City, 13 July 2004.

Scadron affair Rev. Christopher Scadron (d, 2002) was accused by Pam Baye in a civil lawsuit in federal court against the Catholic Diocese of Rapid City, 9 August 2007. Scadron was the family priest for Baye, blessed her marriage and baptized her children, the complaint states. Baye said that in 1987, four years after her marriage, she sought counseling from Scadron regarding her history as a victim of family sex abuse. While in therapy in 2006, she recovered a memory of being assaulted by Scadron during counseling at Sacred Heart Church in Philip. The priest told her she was going to hell and that her children would die and go to hell if she told anyone, the complaint states.
Stack affair Rev. Gilbert Stack accused of abuse per diocesan records.
Diocese of Sioux Falls
Diocese of Sioux Falls Diocese admitted one priest had been accused of sexual abuse up to January 2003. But a report by Bishop Robert Carlson admitted the Diocese of Sioux Falls had received 38 allegations of abuse against 16 priests between 1950-2003, all the accusers were minors at the time the abuse occurred, released 6 October 2003.

Chapman affair Br. Francis Chapman (deceased) accused of abuse at Native American reservation. Sued 2003.
Kowalski affair Rev. Theodore Kowalski accused of abuse while at Native American reservation. Sued 2003.
MacArthur case Rev. Bruce MacArthur, worked in churches across Keloland from 1953 to 1973. He was a convicted sex offender and a self-admitted pedophile. Later MacArthur would serve time in prison for rape and then be reassigned by the Diocese to other locations. He went to live in Texas, where he was convicted of attempting to rape a disabled nursing home patient in Texas, and he admitted to sexually abusing at least 30 girls. A newspaper discovered MacArthur living in Gallup, NM (he never served as a priest in the Diocese of Gallup, and he has no known victims there) in 2003 where he was volunteering in the kitchens of Casa San Martin and Villa Guadalupe, the Little Sisters of the Poor's nursing home.
- DeLonga accusation Rev. Bruce MacArthur was accused by a South Dakota woman of molesting her while he worked in Yankton 1961-1963. Judith “Judy” Glassman DeLonga (1955-) accused him of molesting her from c. 1965-1970 while she lived in Beaver Dam, Wis., lawsuit filed 23 May 2003. Suit settled out of court November 2005.
Walleman affair Rev.Kenneth Walleman accused of abuse while at Native American reservation. Sued 2003.
