Adjectives and participles as nouns
When adjectives or participles are used as nouns, they are capitalized and receive their appropriate adjective endings.
Example sentences:
- Der Neue scheint nett zu sein. (The new [guy] seemsto be nice.)
- Die Kleine geht in den Kindergarten. (The little [girl] goes to kindergarten.)
- Es gibt diesen Monat viele neue Arbeitslose. (There are many new unemployed [people] this month.)
- Haben Sie mit dem Kranken / der Kranken / den Kranken gesprochen? (Did you talk to the sick [man] / the sick [woman] / the sick [people]?)
- Jugendliche kommen gern hierher. (Young people like to come here).
- Das Schöne an diesem Instrument ist, dass es leicht zu lernen ist. (The nice [thing] about this instrument is that it is easy to learn.)
- Das Beste an diesem Film sind die Dialoge. (The best [thing] about this film are the dialogues.)
- Reisende soll man nicht aufhalten. (One should not delay traveling [people].)
- Hast du etwas Gutes gefunden? (Did you find something nice?.)
