Forms of passive alternatives:
There are several grammatical constructions that convey the meaning that something can or must be done.
The sich-lassen-construction
Example sentences:
- Diese Stühle lassen sich stapeln. (These chairs can be stacked.)
- Das lässt sich machen. (That can be done.)
- Das Zelt lässt sich leicht aufbauen. (The tent sets up easily.)
- Diese Frage lässt sich nicht beantworten. (This question cannot be answered.)
Other forms of passive alternatives:
Example sentences:
- Das Buch liest sich gut. (This book reads well..)
- Das ist zu machen. (That can be done / must be done.)
- Das sagt sich so leicht. (That's easily said.)
- Du bist zu beneiden. (You can be envied.)
- Diese Ware verkauft sich gut. (This product sells well.)
- Er ist zu bewundern. (He should be admired.)
- Das ist zu verstehen. (That can be understood.)
- Dieses Auto fährt sich gut. (This car drives well.)
