Ultralingua Apps for Aid Uniting the world through language

About the Program

The Apps for Aid program is part of our ongoing effort to unite the world through language.

Apps for Aid is designed to make communication easier for humanitarian organizations and the people they serve. We donate software to be used by doctors, medical professionals and other humanitarian workers to communicate with their patients and communities around the globe.

You can also learn more about our Haitian Medical Relief app below. We created it in response to the 2010 earthquake as a reference for medical and non-medical volunteers working on the recovery effort, and teams are still using it today.

Disaster Relief

When software donations aren’t enough, we support partners like the American Red Cross financially by donating a percentage of our sales to be used for disaster relief. Information about current donation events is listed below.

January 12-13, 2012: Remembering Haiti

You can help support the American Red Cross while stocking up on the language software you love this month.

On January 12-13, 2012, Ultralingua will donate 20% of our revenue to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund. All Ultralingua, Collins, and Vox products purchased from our website and iTunes App Store from 12:01am on the 12th until 11:59pm (CST) on the 13th will be included in the event!

We want to raise as much aid for the Red Cross as possible, so please help spread the word to your friends and family.

Partnership Showcase

The day after the devastating Haitian earthquake of January 12, 2010, a small group of Boston-area physicians founded Physicians for Haiti (P4H) with the purpose of maintaining a sustained engagement in Haiti's rebuilding process, knowing that while the initial worldwide outpouring of support was remarkable, Haiti was going to need support for years to come.

The mission of P4H is to inspire, empower, and support the development of leaders among Haiti's next generation of health professionals.

They envision a self-sustaining postgraduate Haitian medical education system that is a source of pride for Haiti, equips Haitian health care professionals to provide high quality care to all Haitians, and is built on a foundation of equity and collaboration.

P4H a leader in improving postgraduate medical education and leadership development in Haiti. Learn more about them.

International Medical Relief (IMR) conducts medical clinics in countries where health care is limited and difficult to obtain. They provide dental, surgical and medical care to under-served and vulnerable people through medical mission trips.

IMR works with community leaders in local hospitals, clinics and health posts to bring medical services, supplies, training and education to communities. International Medical Relief’s doctors and volunteers use Ultralingua products in Latin America and Haiti to communicate with the communities they serve.

Project Haiti

After Haiti was devastated by an earthquake in January 2010, Ultralingua decided to help by creating a Haitian Medical Reference Guide. This app, available for free in the iTunes App Store, enables doctors, nurses and other medical professionals to communicate with Haitian-Creole speaking patients. The app includes a Haitian Creole-English medical dictionary, an audio phrasebook and an anthropological reference guide.

All three tools in this app were created using the donated works of Professor Bryant C. Freeman, PhD. Professor Emeritus at the University of Kansas. Without the information he shared from three of his books, Third-World Folk Beliefs and Practices: Haitian Medical Anthropology,
Haitian-English English-Haitian Medical Dictionary, and
Haitian-English Medical Phraseology, it would not have been possible for us to create this tool for the ongoing relief effort.
